Sarkozy And Bruni Feel 'Deep Joy' At Daughter's Birth


French President Nicolas Sarkozy has spoken of his "deep joy" after becoming a father again.

The leader's model/actress wife Carla Bruni gave birth to the couple's first child together in Paris on Wednesday night (19Oct11).

Sarkozy reveals his wife and newborn daughter are doing fine, but he isn't making the baby's name official yet. The French media claims the couple has chosen the name Julia.

He says, "All of you who are parents can understand the very deep joy that Carla and I feel. Each one of you can also understand that it's an even deeper joy because it is private.

"We have been lucky to have a very happy event take place. I will just keep to these few brief words to say to you that they are doing very well."

Sarkozy was reportedly in Frankfurt, Germany when his new daughter was born and jetted back to Paris late on Wednesday to meet the new arrival.

Sarkozy, who is also a grandfather, has three kids from his two previous marriages, while the Italian beauty, who previously dated Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton, is mother to 10-year-old Aurelian.

The couple wed in February, 2008.
