Ascap - Motown's Marv Tarplin Dies
The Miracles guitarist Marv Tarplin has died, aged 70.
The Motown star, who is best known for his work with Smokey Robinson's band, passed away on Friday (30Sep11) in Las Vegas. His cause of death was not known as WENN went to press.
Tarplin began his carer in the 1950s, accompanying girl group The Primettes before they hit the big time and became known internationally as The Supremes.
The Miracles frontman Robinson was so impressed with Tarplin's guitar skills, he lured him away from The Primettes to join his band full time.
Tarplin was also known for his songwriting hits, penning songs for the likes of Marvin Gaye and many of The Miracles' tracks, while he also continued to tour with Robinson as his guitarist up until 2008, when he retired from the road.
During his career, Tarplin won the Bmi Songwriter's Award and the Ascap Award of Merit.
